Decide what the note must answer
Before reading every caption, write the decision you are trying to support. Examples include “Does this page show the same backpack as the source link?”, “Is there enough measurement evidence to compare sizes?” or “Which angle is still missing for a QC comparison?”
A note without a decision question collects details indiscriminately. A note with a question makes it obvious which details matter and when to stop.
Separate observation, claim and inference

Using different verbs helps: “shows” for observations, “states” for page claims, “may” for inferences and “not shown” for gaps.
Record six fields that another reader can audit
- Page identity: exact URL, page title and date checked.
- Item clue: category, visible code, color or another stable identifier.
- Useful evidence: the images, captions or measurements that answer the decision question.
- Claims: material, price, size or other statements, clearly attributed to the page.
- Unknowns: missing angles, source, units, variant, weight or terms.
- Next action: one check that could change the decision.
Use an eight-minute recording pass
- Save the exact item page rather than only the album homepage.
- Scan captions and watermarks for consistent identifiers.
- Choose no more than five images that directly support the question.
- Record measurements with their units and visible endpoints.
- Copy external links into separate labeled fields.
- Write the most important unknown in one sentence.
- Assign a next action or archive the page.
If the note is still growing after eight minutes, the page may be too broad. Narrow to one item or one decision question.
A commuter backpack in practice
Decision question: does the album provide enough evidence to compare capacity and construction with another candidate?
Observed: the page shows front, back, open-interior and strap views; code AB-14 appears in the caption; one image includes outside dimensions in centimeters.
Stated: the caption describes a water-resistant fabric. That statement is not treated as a test result.
Unknown: usable interior volume, packed weight and whether the source link uses the same code.
Next action: audit the source link for code, dimensions and option match. No seller or quality conclusion is added.
Know when to stop adding notes
More screenshots do not repair a missing identity trail. Archive the page with a short reason so you do not repeat the same work later.
