Write the shipment brief before requesting rates
Worldwide wholesale shipping depends on the product mix, packed size, route and destination. An international wholesale supplier label does not guarantee that one provider controls every logistics stage or can confirm the final destination cost.
Use one shipment brief for every quote: contents, quantities, packed weight, dimensions, destination postal area when required, service level and quote date.
If the order uses more than one carton, list the weight and dimensions of each carton. A single combined weight is not enough to reveal oversized pieces or different chargeable-weight calculations.

Quote A: the attractive total with missing inputs
Provider A offers USD 148 and calls it a complete shipping price. The message lists twelve hoodies and six pairs of shoes but gives no dimensions, chargeable-weight rule, route name or destination-fee basis.
The total is not rejected, but its status is incomplete. Ask for packed dimensions, service level, included charges and whether duties, taxes, brokerage or remote-area fees are excluded.
Quote B: the clearer basis with a higher number
Provider B offers USD 171 for the same stated contents, records 14.2 kg actual weight, 17.6 kg chargeable weight, carton dimensions, route and handling, and excludes destination duties.
The higher total has a clearer basis. It is still not a final landed cost because destination charges remain unknown. These numbers are illustrative rather than current market rates.
Put both quotes on the same basis
- Confirm that contents and quantities match.
- Compare actual and chargeable weight with the stated formula.
- Record carton dimensions and oversized thresholds.
- Separate transport, handling, packing, insurance and surcharges.
- State how duties, taxes, brokerage and local delivery are treated.
- Record route, service level, quote date and expiry.
Ask who handles exceptions
A useful rate comparison also identifies responsibility for remeasurement, prohibited items, damage, customs holds, delivery exceptions and claims. The lowest total may provide a weaker process when something changes.
Review the written terms of the service responsible for the shipment. This guide cannot confirm carrier acceptance, customs treatment, delivery time or claims outcome.
Refresh the quote when the shipment brief changes
Do not scale an old rate when the product mix, quantity, packaging, destination or route changes. Update the brief and ask every remaining provider to quote the revised basis. Keep the earlier version for comparison, but mark it superseded rather than deleting the assumptions that produced it.
Before choosing, check that the quote is still within its stated validity period and that the packed measurements came from the same contents. A current total attached to an old carton is not a current comparison.
